Textile Arts Forum, Worthing

Tomorrow is an annual textiles event, in fact it was the first in the country to dedicate itself totally to textiles. It now takes place at the Heene Community Centre, Heene Road, Worthing. Lots to see and eat too! Hope to see some of you there.

What will you find?  Well, exhibitions, displays, demonstrations, and stands selling lots of yummy bits and pieces.  Winifred Cottage will be there, and so will my other half!

Don’t forget to come and say ‘hello’. Talk to me about the embellisher, or online workshops – any workshops, come to that, and also about the talks that I give to groups.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Fun with the embellisher

Last night we visited the Embroiderers’ Guild in Chelmsford.  I gave a talk and demonstration on the embellisher, and I had a lovely time!  Afterwards there was a chance for members to try one of the three machines we took with us, and I’m glad to say that several gave it a go!  It was a truly lovely evening and we were looked after very well.

Unfortunately we travelled home at ‘that time of night’.  Those of you that don’t know the M25 won’t realise that there is a lot of reconstruction happening at the moment.  Many of the lanes are closed at various times – and last night several stretches were down to a single carriageway.  It was tedious, and therefore nearly 1am by the time we arrived home.  We weren’t frustrated, though – what’s the point?  There was absolutely nothing we could do about it, so we just patiently joined the queue.

Today I’ve been enjoying myself on the sewing machine.  I had some work to finish, and at the same time I’ve been making some more cards.  Here’s one using my hand-dyed paper.

All cards are for sale, and would also look good in a little frame.  If you would like to buy one let me know.

Stitchfest update

Goodness me!  It certainly rained yesterday, so if you decided to stay away from Stitchfest I really don’t blame you.  Our journey to Ardingly took us along the M25, and to say that it was difficult to see the car in front is putting it mildly.  So many cars, though, still driving on side lights – or no lights at all.  We saw a couple of near misses on the way there, and the result of a ‘touch’ on the way back.  Such a shame.

Anyway, if you didn’t make it you missed a really good show.  The exhibitions were excellent, and congratulations to Chichester branch for their winning entry.  Well-deserved, I have to say.  The theme was ‘Flight’ – and it was well interpreted by everyone.  I think that if I had entered I would have made a reference to Concorde – a recent post on my chatty blog will explain why.

What I really enjoy about these shows, however, is meeting all the people.  It was lovely to see so many students, so many of whom asked when the next workshop will be.  It was also good to meet a couple of online students face to face.  I’ll be posting the next round of workshops soon, in readiness for the autumn.  I’ve also had a few invitations to teach in other parts of the country too, so watch out for details of those too.

As for the camera – well we found it patiently waiting to be picked up!  It was still on the chair – so I’m sorry to say that there are no photographs of the stand, competition entries, or the horizontal rain!
